Solution to Spam
I can't be the first person to think of this, but I see a clear and obvious solution to the spam problem. Spammers don't spam because they're bored and are looking for a little excitement. Spammers spam because companies pay them to. Companies use Spam as an advertising method. They use it because it's cheap and works.
If everyone stops buying products from companies that use Spam to advertise, then they'll stop using Spam, and we'll stop getting Spam. Simple, eh?
The problem is, legitimate businesses would never use nefarious techniques like Spam (and I don't mean the opt-in email newsletters or promotions that are a great marketing tool). Only filthy degenerate seedy companies selling gray or black market products would use Spam, and there is and will always be a customer for that market out there.
The best thing I can think of to at least try to stop those companies from using Spam is to contact them (they're selling a product, they have to have a way to get your credit card number) and tell them directly that you refuse to do business with anyone who uses Spam to advertise.
Does anyone know of a website that lists the company details of all companies that pay spammers? It would be nice to check against a list like that before purchasing from any company, online or in person.
